Hey guys,
That rushed first ever attempt on Azuregos was a ton of fun. We got him to 41% with only a vague idea of what to expect. I think next time, if enough of us go in with even that bit of experience, let alone the following write up, we are sure to down him!
Azuregos
Azuregos is on a random spawn timer, somewhere between 8 hours and 5 days. When he does spawn he patrols south eastern Azshara. He is tauntable (yay!)
Abilities:
Immunities: Azuregos is immune to arcane spells and is highly resistant to frost.
Melee Attack: His white damage hits are 500-800 damage, pretty wussy.
Cleave: This seems to be a +1 target cleave rather than an endlessly chaining cleave, but don't bet your life on it. No one should stand next to the MT.
Chill: ~850 frost damage AE attack similar to frost nova. Reduces attack speed by 75% and movement by 40%. Range is ~25 yards. Randomly timed, averages to about once every 30 seconds.
Teleport: Ports everyone within ~35 yards to his centerpoint. Randomly timed, seems to be every 30-45 seconds but can come earlier. This is a *TOTAL* agro wipe for anyone affected.
Mana Storm: Blizzard style attack that deals ~400 frost dmg/sec and burns a large amount of mana. Tends to target only those in melee range, anyone out of range of Chill should not be hit by this too often.
Frost Breath: ~900 frost damage and ice blocks everyone in his front arc who doesn't resist. This ability can be broken out of by any trinket/ability that normally breaks stuns/immobilizes and can be dispelled. Used randomly, average of every 30 seconds or so.
Magic Shield: Reflects all magic back at caster when activated (also reflects Rogue poisons.) I noticed a CTRaid warning when it deactivated, can anyone remember if it warned when it came up as well? Can be visually spotted by sparkles all over his body. Used fairly often, perhaps as frequently as every 15 seconds.
Aura of Frost and Mark of Frost: Anyone Azuregos kills is given a 15 minute debuff called Mark of Frost. When engaged Azuregos pulses his Aura of Frost constantly. It has no affect if you aren't marked, but if you are it ice blocks you for a long period of time. This has the effect of completely removing from the fight anyone who dies, so battle rezzing is useless.
Strategy:
This is a slow and steady fight. Consider it like Onyxia pre Tranquil Air. We are in no rush to down him, focus should be on steady, controlled DPS, conserving mana for the duration, and reacting appropriately to his various chaos causing abilities.
He patrols in a large circle, there are a couple relatively empty areas where it is best to fight him with a low number of possible adds.
When engaged he should be tanked facing in a manner that allows plenty of room to both his sides and rear for the raid to spread out.
The MT must be dispelled as fast as possible every time he is afflicted with ice block.
It is important that everyone in the raid get hit by the teleport, no one should be outside the 35 yard range. Please note a lot of confusion occured our first attempt where people were not sure where the range was based. Since the port lands you all in the same spot dead center of him, I think its safe to assume this is the point of origin, NOT the edge of his target ring. Perhaps a ranged can confirm?
Regardless, after being hit by the teleport no one should resume attacking until the MT has regained solid agro. This means at least 3 sunders if light DPSing or 5 if heavier. No DOTS or HOTs should be used in this fight, nor any attack that may leave a dot on him (such as fireball) because it will be very easy for it to tick before the MT can regain agro and thus draw him onto you.
After ported, you are still in combat with Azuregos, but your agro is zero. It seems it is possible to run out of range of him and get out of combat, drink up, and run back in.
Range classes should at all times stay between 25 and 35 yards to avoid the chill/mana burn but be within range of the teleport. If you do not get ported your agro is not wiped, but the MT's certainly is, and Azuregos will beeline for you and end up out of position. When a ranged class is ported immediately run out to your 25-35 yard range (mages blink is kinda sexy here) to avoid any possible chills/mana storms that may be about to land. Popping a greater frost resistance pot while learning can be a good thing, you may get hit by one of his AE frost attacks after a port.
Melee classes have a couple options. They can try and time the Chills by range dpsing until a chill occurs, then charge in for 20 seconds of melee damage, then withdraw and range dps until the next chill. If they have a decent amount of frost resist they can stay in. The key here is making yourself as self sufficient hp wise as possible. Since its such a long fight, every ounce possible of the healer's mana should be reserved for the MT. Use Potions early, and bandage at every opportunity. Again, popping a greater frost prot pot until hes on farm status can be quite useful.
Some class specific notes:
Mages - scorch is recommended here. ice bolt he will resist most of, and fireballs can land that DOT.
Warlocks - No DOTs, sorry guys! He is also immune to curse of elements. Alternating between wanding and shadowbolting is probably your best bet, be very careful of your agro.
Hunters - Limit yourself mostly to autoshot, aimed shot crits can be very dangerous here. Pets not recommended as they will draw agro after a port and delay the MT regaining.
Tanks - Don't bother with frost resist. The level required to resist a useful percentage of his ice blocks is high enough that your hps/def would be gimped. This dispellable effect is not worth such a sacrifice, nor is the minor frost damage he dishes out. Wear your regular tanking gear to ensure maximum surviveability and damage mitigation (your healers will thank you) _________________ Warmaker is in ur Valhalla killing all ur valkeriez!

CtRaid warning does appear when the shield comes up as well as when it goes down. I was gettig both, but i know others weren't as i was telling them when it went up and down after i died during the fight |

A RareSpawn/Children of Mafioso/Nocturnal Prophets PUG took down Azuergos last night with 22 people. Dropped Unmelting Ice Girdle (+16FrR, +8 def plate belt), Crystal Adorned Crown (+92 healing cloth helm), Sapphiron's Scale Boots, and the blue sinew.
I know tagging world spawns is a challenge, but we shouldn't let them fall off our radar. That's some good loot for half an hour's work. |

| On our 09/14/06 kill we used a 2 tank strategy. With only 26 in raid I think it worked really well. |

I think that it would not be a terrible idea if we did leave our alt(s) on those world dragon spawn points. At the most, it would take 90 seconds out of your regular playing time since it would just be a logon>look around>logoff>log back on main _________________ cant stopp the Hopp

i would love to kill off some world dragons. i need blue dragon sinew for epic quiver and they drop some killer gear.
i have a dungeon compendium that gives me info for all dungeons pre-naxx and the 4 world dragons so i can offer strategies for any of them. _________________ http://ctprofiles.net/3799518 |
